One Block Wonder!

Posted by

Recently I had the privilege to quilt these 2 amazing quilts for my friend Valerie Prideaux.  Although Valerie comes from a  science background, she is very creative in the art department and  is never afraid to try anything new.  She is also my technical person, which makes her worth her weight in quilt fabric.

Valerie has created a 45 minute Zoom presentation, titled  “one shape quilts”.  I had a preview the other day and I was really impressed.  I see a lot of Val’s quilts in my studio, but there were many that I had not seen.   If your guild is in need of some presenters while it is navigating the future please send Valerie’s name to your executive. I think you will be impressed with the ideas that she has come up with for this simple shape. Here is one of the pieces I have recently quilted.

Here is a close up.  In case you cannot see it, the shape is called a tumbler.

And the back is cut with elongated thimbles, which probably took more time to figure out than the front.

I can’t decide if I like the quilt below sideways or lengthwise, either way it makes a great wall quilt.  Reminds me of an abstract landscape.

Val choose a dark olive thread to quilt for the quilting, after the first few rows I questioned that decision and almost called her to say let’s rethink the thread colour. It worked out, especially after she added a dark olive binding.

I am big on using stash, and both of these quilts were made during “covid”,  made from stash. There is some old and some very recent fabrics in both of these quilts. Valerie even used some map of Paris fabric. She has a blog (but she kept all her tumbler blocks a secret until now!)- CozyFunkyCool.com Her contact information is: vrprideaux@gmail.com.

As always I love to help you finish your quilts!
