I had not seen this particular Sue Spargo Block of the Month till Alexadra showed up in my studio with it. I don’t know she finds the time to keep up with the program, the detail in each block in stunning. This particular quilt is more subdued than the colour pallet Sue usually works in.
Here are some closeups of the blocks, the colours are subdued, but the attention to detail remains the same.
Each part of the block is stitched in the ditch, and then surrounded by the swirly fill. The last pic has a bit of border with 1/2 ” spaced piano keys.
We decided to quilt a less dense background fill on this project, a decision that I regretted because it is difficult to keep a bigger swirl and still fit into the tiny spaces. We matched the thread with the background wool which meant I wasn’t able to quilt the seam allowance flatter.
I am going to share this last photo, it is a block embroidered by me for a memory quilt. I have not done any embroidery in a number of years and found my eyes didn’t work as well as they used to. I have a new appreciation for all the work that Alexandra puts into all her Sue Spargo projects.
.
I am on a holiday in Calgary at the moment and hope to catch up on sharing some of the quilts that have passed thru my studio. Stay well!
Holiday, Well yes, I guess you haven’t got your long arm with you! But I am sure the twins will keep you hopping around! Have fun, Regards Gillian
