Stash Buster Quilts

Stash Buster Workshop – Modernize your Old Stash

You feel guilty that you have” IT” and you want to use “IT” since you have paid for “IT” … OLD STASH  that is!  Plough thru your stash in this fast paced and very simple workshop. You will learn to audition your fabric, foundation piece on muslin, and be challenged to think  “outside the box” and come away with many ideas on how to modernize your old stash with a very simple foundation piecing technique.

String Snowball Workshop

This amazing scrap quilt will be sure to put a dent in your old  stash. It is easily pieced on a paper foundation or made with specially designed acrylic templates. Once you start putting the units of the blocks on your design wall you will find many design possibilities.  You can play with the values in your stash for a 3 D effect or just make a colourful version and modernize it with a carefully chosen background fabric or you can play with colour placement. The design possibilities will be covered in the workshop.

Everything Old is New Again —  Zig Zag

Modernize your old stash with the addition of white and grey solids!  String piece your old stash into this wonderful scrappy quilt.  This quilt can be made using a paper foundation or sting pieced and cut with a 60 degree triangle ruler.  Both methods will be covered in class.

Everything Old is New Again    Modern Web 

Modernize your old stash with the addition of white and grey solid fabric.  Simple piecing on a foundation will provide the accuracy need to make this stunning quilt design.   The contrast web diffuses outward to become a border that is incorporated into the design.

Flannel Foundation Quilts

The flannel in a flannel foundation quilt becomes the batting, making it a very thin and warm quilt.  The flannel instantly ages the quilt and thru numerous washing the quilt develops an amazing texture.

Primitive Log Cabin

Go modern and low volume with this simple free form pieced quilt,  or dig into your plaids and up-cycle some mens shirts.  This  scrappy quilt works just as well with a modern palette or the fabric style of your choice and is foundation pieced onto  flannel.  

Grandma’s Stars

A  traditional scrappy quilt made with a wide variety of reproduction 30’s fabrics mixed with  calicos and  co-ordinating solids.  This quilt  is made on a flannel foundation. Big stitch quilting and prairie points give it the perfect finishing touch.  

Angles and Squares 

This wonderful scrap quilt will be sure to put a dent in your stash,  enabling you to use any of your collections of fabric; plaids, batiks, moderns,  reproductions etc.  The diagonal line in the block enables you to make an endless variety of log cabin settings.  You only need to decide the colour value as you play at your sewing machine.  This  quilt is foundation pieced on a flannel foundation.

Tumbling Logs

Dig into your stash of reproduction fabrics and tiny prints to make this amazing 3D quilt.  Learn to work with the colour value in your fabric stash to achieve the appearance of the tumbling blocks. Each diamond is actually a log cabin block pieced on a paper foundation and sewn together with “Y” seams.
