Another Word about Backs

Another riot of colour!  This quilt was made of batik scraps  by Helgard.  This  very simple block made of scraps was organized on the design wall to balance the colour. I think we quilted it with an allover leaf pantograph in a khaki green thread.

A little while back I taught  Helgard how to build a back out of many pieces of stash on the design wall.   We worked out the dimensions on graph paper first. The trick  is squaring as you go and sewing it in units with  1/2 inch seams that are pressed  open.  You should also try to stagger your vertical seams so they do not wrap around the machine rollers in the same spot.
